Can we recognise sediment limitations in geomorphic models?
The next in a series of publications on the Illgraben by Dr Jacob Hirschberg of HYDROL and WSL explains how sediment limitations may exhibit themselves in modelled sediment yields.
In this paper just published in external page Geophysical Research Letters, Jacob is showing that sediment yields may be underestimated in sediment supply limited conditions in geomorphic system models in the debris-flow catchment Illgraben. In this research we show that sediment supply may introduce long-term memory effects driven by the history of sediment storage, and consequently that determining geomorphic system response from short records may be grossly inaccurate.
